The ratio of present ages of Ram and Shyam is 4:3. If 10 years ago Ram was half of Shyam in age, what is the sum of their present ages?

let present ages of ram and shyam be x and y
x/y=4/3

x-10=1/2(y-10)
4y/3-10=1/2(y-10)
2(4y-30)=3(y-10)
8y-60=3y-30
5y=30
y=6
then x=4y/3=4*6/3=8
Sum of their present ages=x+y=8+6=14 answer Nov 25, 2016

X=2
Total age=2(4+3)

R/S = 4/3
R-10=(S-10)÷2
Solving both , we get S=6, R=8
