Does google or other search engines read the change frequency and lastmod from the sitemap.xml

Your help may help us to improve the queryhome and its performance. My question is does google or other search engines read the change frequency and last mod from the site map.

Yes I believe so, Their web crawlers / robots do actually

Ok thanks let me add the changefreq first, followed by lastmod which may  take some time :)
