If I run WindowsXP in a VM am I looking at Windows security risks? I have whatever protection Fedora 19 delivers out of the box and my DD-WRT router. I am still uneasy booting Windows ... There are no Windows boxes on my LAN, only Apple stuff in addition to mine.

Don't think a virtual machine is anything different than a physical install, if you have a unpatched security hole in your virtual windows it get's the same way infected by doing the same as any other windows and with a virtual machine running Windows *you have* a windows in your LAN and most likely it has more ports to your host open as you would have on the LAN, at least older versions of VMware Workstation where treatet as coming from localhost by iptables, in never versions the connections are coming from the virtual NAT address and can be filtered separately.

I have switched my laptop to Ubuntu 12.04 (14.04 was not out then) from Windows XP. Everything works great except for two things:

Google Earth does not recognize his on-board VGA adapter (Intel 945) as capable to manage 3D textures. and I cannot get his old Lexmark x2620 printer to work. Can anyone suggest some pointer.

I did a fresh install of LinuxMint, v 16, Petra and through the Software Manager installed VirtualBox (non free version)

VrtualBox v4.3
Host: LinuxMint v16. Petra with the MATE DE
Guest: Windows XP Home

The following Error Message appears when attempting to install Window XP.

"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP.
Failed to load VMMR0r0(VERR_SVM_DISABLED"

Clicking on Details, reveals

"Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0X800040005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)"

Is there someone on the list who can tell me what may have gone wrong,

This full screen looks like a 50% of the windows and centered.

I am running VMware player on CentOS 5.4 and its working fine. However it does not allow me to increase the RAM more than 3GB. It keeps throwing error stating- "Requested memory size is greater than allowed maximum of 3072 MB. Could not initiate memory hot plug."

I understand from few threads that 32bit OS has this kind of limitation but I am able to understand why I am seeing this issue when I am using 64bit OS and VMware player is also for 64bit.
