£5.60
.
Total sales = £6 * (85 + 17) = £612
Sales normal price = £8 * 17 = £136
That leaves £612 - £136 = £476 for the remaining 85 shirts => at £5.60

The answer is 5.60

There were 17 shirts sold at 8.00 each.
There were 85 shirts sold at ____ each.
Their combined totals need to reach $612.00 in order for the average to be $6.00 since there were 102 shirts sold.

17 * 8 + 85 * X = 612
136 + 85 * X = 612
85X = 476
X = 476 / 85
X = 5.60

If 17 shirts sell at $8.00 and 85 shirts sell at a value x, and their average price is $6.00, this means that the 85 shirts must compensate for the 17 shirts sold at $2.00 above the average
2.00 x 17 = $34.00
34.00/85 = $.60
$6.00 - $.60 = $5.40

34 / 85 = 0.40, not 0.60.
Using 0.40 results in $5.60.
