What is the use of knowing eNodeB UL bandwidth information for an UE ?

In LTE UL and DL bandwidth can be different. As UE needs to know the DL bandwidth, same way UE should have the information of UL bandwidth. if UE does not have UL bandwidth information, then how UE will send UL signalling/data on actual physical resource?
