You can create your own.....

  1. rpmrebuild -ep google-earth-stable-XXX.x86_64.rpm (you may need to "yum install rpmrebuild first)
  2. Search for the line containing /usr/bin. The line is:
    %dir %attr(0755, root, root) "/usr/bin")
    Remove it.
  3. Save and exit. Answer y. It will then tell you the location of the fixed rpm.
  4. yum install PATH_TO_FIXED_RPM

So, I decided to try installing GoogleEarth (GE) for the first time ever. I found the following:

http://fedora18tutorial.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-install-google-earth-on-fedora-17.html

and tried it the following:

% wget -c http://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm
% sudo yum localinstall google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

But I got the following:

Transaction Check Error: file /usr/bin from install of google-earth-stable-7.1.1.1871-0.x86_64
conflicts with file from package filesystem-3.1-2.fc18.x86_64

I have switched my laptop to Ubuntu 12.04 (14.04 was not out then) from Windows XP. Everything works great except for two things:

Google Earth does not recognize his on-board VGA adapter (Intel 945) as capable to manage 3D textures. and I cannot get his old Lexmark x2620 printer to work. Can anyone suggest some pointer.

Installed Fedora 26 on recommendation of a Scribus developer. Installed about 30 packages per his advice.

But when I try to compile a program the machine can't find C++. So what is the package I need to install to compile C++ programs?.

Another question. On Slackware (yes I am one of those) I can use kdm to get to a window function ( I preferXFCE). How do I set up a window manager in Fedora and how do I access it?
