Not a technology question but a behaviour and business question so let me answer in a different way -

  1. Not everyone require a dataplan, people at countryside or seniors etc need voice plan these people constitute more then 50% of the mobile users.
  2. Even if you need to access data for various reason but you still have a way to access i.e. broadband at home which is more faster, so we can say data is not need driven.

Now if you see worldwide telecom revenue then it has 75% of voice revenue and 25% of data. Even with the best estimates voice is still going to be atleast 60% of revenue for next 3-5 years, before voice is transferred as packet i.e. Data. So you assumption is correct voice is going to rule the world for next 3-5 years.

To add technical stuff to the Salil Agrawal , In voice service you need the data rate to be only 9.6 kbps, where as for the data you want it to be at least 100 kbps, so providing at that speed needs more bandwidth and more handling, so more cost,
In current state of art (LTE), we are trying to reduce the cost, at least it will not be 10 times(since data rate is 10 times) of your charges for voice, so comparatively you are getting it for less cost only ..

No operator is providing MBMS services as I know, and so many other technologies could perform much better in broadcasting.

Is there anyone or company still working on the broadcasting over LTE or 3G now?
