LTE: Why the user plane data is not integrity protected before sending to UE over the air ?

I know integrity protection is imposed for RRC messages that are exchanged between UE and eNodeB. What would be the reason for not having the integrity for user plane traffic ?

Hi ganesh,

Refer this link, harshita has explained very clearly

I did not get the use of different RV values that come from eNodeB to UE.

I found 1st bit which is used to indicate that packet carrying Data/Control information. My question is that why first bit is used even packet itself known as "PDCP Data PDU".

At the high level I understand LTE nodes and signalling but want to learn in depth. I read one statement saying " MIB information is scrambled with antenna specific mask". Now I want to understand if an eNodeB supports multiple antennas (saying two antennas) , known as MIMO, then in that case, does an eNodeB sends MIB information into two different frequency spaces ? MIB is transmitted into subframe #0 of each radio frame.
Now I have doubt when we say MIB is scrambled with antenna specific mask before broadcasting and only middle 6 RBs are used to braodcast MIB, then in case of MIMO where multiple antennas are being used to send MIBs. Shall MIB from both the antennas overlap due to same 6 RBs or the same 6 RBs can be used to broadcast MIBs from both the antennas ?

There are couple of procedures are defined which consist of NAS as well as RRC signalling messages exchange.
Some of the NAS message sends to an UE through RRC Connection Reconfiguration message as piggybacked and some as DL Info transfer.

I want to know, Is there any procedure exists in lte when an UE receives RRC Connection Reconfiguration along with NAS message and responds back to network with NAS message first and then Reconfiguration Complete to eNodeB.

Usually, I saw UE sends RRC Connection Reconfiguration Complete message first then NAS response message.

why Ciphering is done for both user plane and control plane data, why not integrity done for both data in PDCP protocol
