You are working out some estimates for your boss. You can come up with a very good package for your nice little widgets, but the packaging may be too expensive. The cost of the widget and the packaging is $1.10, and the widget is $1.00 more than the package.

package = $0.05, widget = $1.05

Widget is $ 1,- more than the packaging.
If packaging costs x $, then the widget costs 1+x $.
The total cost is then x + (1+x) = 1+2*x $.
The total cost is 1,10 $. x is then 0.05 $.

Total Cost $1.10 100%
Widget $1.00 91%
Packaging $0.10 9%

If the packaging were .03 for example then you add $1.00 total cost would be $1.03. So the only thing it can be is $.10 so that you arrive at $1.10 for total cost.
