Any number which is divisible by 80 or 10 x 8 must have in its unit place zero. Therefore, y = 0. therefore the number 273x0. If this is divisible by 8, the last three digits must be exactly divisible by 3. In other words, the number 3x0 must be divisible by 8. This can happen only if x = 4. Hence the number is 27340. Since x = 4 and y = 0. Therefore, the value of x + y = 4 + 0 = 4, which is the answer.

y has yo be 0, for the no to be divisible by 80, again x has to be 6 for the no to be divisible, hence x+y =6
