It’s hard to give up.
Remove part of it and you still have a bit.
Remove another part, but bit is still there.
Remove another and it remains.
What is it?

Answer is "HABIT"... Habit'. Remove a letter, 'abit'. Remove another letter, 'bit'. Remove another, 'it

Came up with a few the other day, trying to space them out. Another 'what am I' riddle, this one should give you a definite "aha!" moment when you figure it out.

When you beheaded a word, you remove first letter and still have a valid word.
You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
1. Shut -> Misplace; fail
2. Open -> Glass container
3. Unusual; lightly cooked -> They exist
4. Prevent from spoiling -> Holding back
