Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)
His work in the FSB specialised in tackling organised crime. Before he left Russia he had been addressing systemic corruption, including publicly accusing his superiors of ordering the assassination of a Russian oligarch. Litvinenko was killed in London in 2006 with acute radiation from polonium. Russian agents were accused of carrying it out; Russia has consistently denied any part in the killing.
