Oscar Niemeyer
Niemeyer also collaborated with Le Corbusier (and others) on the United Nations Headquarters in the 1950s. He was the recipient of many international awards, including the Lenin Peace Prize in 1963, the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1988 (co-winner with Gordon Bunshaft), the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 1989, and the Japan Art Association’s Praemium Imperiale prize for architecture in 2004. He wrote: "I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves. The curves that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuousness of its rivers, in the waves of the ocean, and on the body of the beloved woman. Curves make up the entire Universe, the curved Universe of Einstein".
