1763
Under the Treaty of Paris signed in 1763, France and Spain relinquished their conquests in North America to Britain and Portugal. New France at its peak extended from Newfoundland to the Canadian Prairies and from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, including all the Great Lakes of North America, and this territory was ceded to Britain.
