66 larger than life engraved glass figures
The West Wall is 21.5 m (70 ft) high and 18.85 m (45 ft) wide, composed of 66 figures in 8 ranks, lines of saints interspersed with lines of angels created and engraved by John Hutton. The Wall is technically north, but it is the "liturgical west" since it is opposite the altar which traditionally faces east. The other alternatives are all works created for the rebuilt cathedral; the figure of Christ ("Christ in Glory in the Tetramorph") is a tapestry, the focal point to the nave, designed by Graham Sunderland; the abstract is the Baptistry window designed by John Piper; the figure of St Michael is a bronze sculpture by Jacob Epstein.
