He was blown up and then killed
Lord Darnley, father of James I of Great Britain, was blown up and killed while lying ill in a house called Kirk o' Field, Edinburgh.

So, According to the History of Scotland, Queen of Scotland Mary and her Private secretary David Rizzio assassinated Lord Darnely. However, later there were no evidences found against them. So, it remains a mistry.
