There are many angle to it -

  1. Eating Veggies is less of a violence as we shorten the food cycle. Lets understand some basic facts about this:
    a. Plants make their own food and humans and most animals depend on them directly or indirectly.
    b. When we raise chicken, we feed them with soybean and the conversion ratio is 10:1 i.e. for a yield of 1Kg chicken, we feed 10Kg of soybeen. Do not assume that the non-veg we eat comes from jungle (Almost all the meats that humans consume is from farms)
    c. So when we eat non-veg, then we actually are killing both plants and animals.
Now coming to bigger problem . . .
  2. Non-veg creates the major food problem as energy conversion is reduced by the factor of 10.
  3. 5%-10% greenhouse gases are generated by livestock.
    4) Non-Veg requires more water and more space in totality.
    . . . etc. etc.
