What is the open stack and how it can be used in vEPC nodes?

I don't know vEPC, but as far openstack is concerned it is an open source cloud operating system built in collaboration between NASA and rackspace. Openstack is used by many organizations for building their own in premise private cloud. Other popular cloud operating systems are ec2, azure etc. It is used primarily for building infrastructure as a service.
