Why is CPython 2.5 a dependency for Jython 2.5?

0 votes

I'm running a box with Debian squeeze, and I just ran:

sudo aptitude install jython

which ended up installing Python 2.5:

Linking and byte-compiling packages for runtime python2.5...
Setting up python2.5 (2.5.5-11) ...

Does anyone know why CPython 2.5 is a dependency for Jython 2.5.1+ on Debian squeeze?

Not exactly answering your question...
The debian dependencies can be fairly 'conservative' which means all kinds of stuff is pulled in 'just-in-case' eg Ive seen aptitude build-dep pull in a ridiculous amount of doc-stuff like latex (whose size is of the order of GBs) probably because some document format may require it.

Might Jython use some Python modules/packages unmodified? Does sys.path in Jython refer to the CPython tree?

Just wanted to clarify whether CPython already includes these kind of byte code optimizations? Are all the temporary variables removed when byte code is generated?

I'm currently trying to make sense of Python's Timsort function. From the wikipedia page I was told the algorithm is located somewhere here:

So of all the functions in there, could somebody point to me which one is timsort?

I have an application which uses extensively python 2.7.6 (CPython).

The issue that I see is the following: "If there are only pyc files, the loading time of the application is much more than if I have pyc and py files. It is behind with 2 minutes more than if it had py files"

Do you have any idea why this is happening?

We are developing our own automation test toolkit basing on MonkeyRunner. We intent to reuse some of our old python classes. I just realized that I came across 'jython version is too low' problem. our Python classes are targeting for 2.7. currently MonkeyRunner is running on top of 2.53.

my question is as follows:
Can I update jython only for monkeyrunner? if yes, how?

I look after a Delphi program that uses Python 2.5 (via Python for Delphi). A customer who uses a modeling program that requires Python 2.7 experiences a Python conflict when trying to run the Delphi program. I have installed both Python 2.5 and 2.7 on a test-bed computer and can run the Delphi program. I have searched the FAQ, and have found some mention of being able to set a default Python version when installing, which I presume has occurred when the customer installed Python 2.7, so that the Delphi program is being directed to Python 2.7.

However, I do not see this option when I install Python 2.7, and I do not see how to remove this option so I can advise the customer what to do. The programs are running under Windows 7 - 32-bit. Any assistance gratefully received.
