An LTE network area is divided into three different types of geographical areas points below:

  • The MME pool areas
  • The S-GW service areas
  • The Tracking areas

Identifiers:

  • The Network Id's: is mixed up with MCC + MNC + PLMN-ID.
  • MME-IDs: MMEC + MMEGI + MMEI (If we combine PLMN-ID with the MMEI then we arrive at a Globally Unique MME Identifier (GUMMEI), which identifies an MME anywhere in the world.)
  • The tracking area IDs: PLMN-ID+TAC+TAI
  • The Cell IDs
  • The Mobile Equipment Id (Finally adding the MME group identity and the PLMN identity with S-TMSI results in the Globally Unique Temporary Identity (GUTI).)
