CR offers the possibility to significantly increase the spectrum efficiency, by smart secondary users (CR users) using the free licensed users spectrum holes; on the other hand, the 5G implies the whole wireless world interconnection (WISDOM—Wireless Innovative System for Dynamic Operating Mega-communications concept), together with very high data rates Quality of Service (QoS) service applications. In this paper, they are combined together into a “CR based 5G”. With this aim, two novel ideas are advanced: the 5G terminal is a CR terminal and the CR technology is chosen for WISDOM concept. Thus, the 5G takes CR flexibility and adaptability and makes the first step through a commercial and tangible form.

Consider a radio which autonomously detects and exploits empty spectrum to increase your file transfer rate. Suppose this same radio could remember the locations where your calls tend to drop and arrange for your call to be serviced by a different carrier for those locations.

These are some of the ideas motivating the development of cognitive radio. In effect, a cognitive radio is a software radio whose control processes leverage situation knowledge and intelligent processing to work towards achieving some goal related to the needs of the user, application, and/or network.

  • With its extensive experience in the field of cognitive radio,
  • Automatically detect and exploit unused spectrum
  • Automatically detect and inter-operate with varying network standards
  • Improve performance (see our DFS article about how to achieve a 19 dB
  • reduction in interference.

gNB (Generation NodeB) is also referred as next generation radio. I saw two options open 3 and open 3A for next generation network architecture. I have knowledge on LTE so I want to know how next generation radio would be inter-working with existing core network specially option 3.
