Timer concept is used to complete any procedure with in the defined time. If any procedure is not able to complete with in the time then the timer running node can consider this as procedure fail and then it can take next step and can avoid infinite stuck.

Hi anonymous,

Timer usage is to synchronize the ENB and UE. Say example DRX timer, If UE is not maintaining DRX timer then UE cant predict when to wake up and when to sleep.same way in ENB side If ENB didn't maintain timer then ENB cant predict when to send paging and when to send data. So in order to synchronize the ENB and UE we are (LTE) maintaining the timer. If timer is not there means there is no mechanism to synchronize the ENB and UE.

Happy Learning :)

I came to know total six subframes of a radio frame can be used for MBSFN transmission. How UE come to know about exact number of sub frames that are being used in a radio frame ? Does the eNodeB send this information to UE or UE itself figure out ?
