Amount of water drained by three taps = 1/5 = 0.2 i.e 20%
Amount of water drained by 1st tap = 1/10 = 0.1 i.e 10%
let x and y be time taken by 2nd and 3rd tap respectively,

==> 1/x + 1/y + 0.1 = 0.2
1/x + 1/y = 0.1
if we assume 3rd tap drains neglegible amount of water,
then, 1/x = 0.1 ==> x = 10 hrs answer Dec 24, 2014

A tank can be filled by the Tap A in 4 Hrs and by Tap B in 6 Hrs. The same tank can be emptied by the Tap C in 8 Hrs. Now suppose we keep all three taps on then how much time it will take to fill?

A tap can fill a tank in 30 minutes, another tap can fill it in 1.5 hours.
If both the taps are opened at 11.40 am.
At what time will the tank be filled?

There is a large fresh water reservoir that has two distinct drainage systems - small pipe and large pipe.

Six large pipes can drain the reservoir completely in exactly 12 hours while six small pipes will take 18 hours to drain the reservoir.

Can you calculate the time that will be taken by 6 large pipes and 6 small pipes together to drain the reservoir?
