Assume x=dollars, y=cents of original check

converting everything into cents
(100x+y)*2=100y+x-5
199x = 98y -5

of
y=(199x+5)/98 and both should be the integer where y should be less then 100. which comes as x=31 and y=63

ie. answer is \$31.63

A man went into a bank to cash a cheque. In handing over the money the cashier, by mistake, gave him dollars for cents and cents for dollars. He pocketed the money without examining it, and spent a nickel on his way home.

He then found that he possessed exactly twice the amount of the cheque. He had no money in his pocket before going to the bank. What was the exact amount of that cheque?

Aarush is giving his exam and after spending a lot of time answering the questions, he asks the examiner about the time that is left for the exam.

The the examiner is quite obtuse with her answer and says that the amount of time left is 1/5th of the time that has already passed.

You are given 99 coins which consists of 30 fake ones. You also have a digital balance scale with perfect precision that shows how much difference between weighs you put on. For example, if you put 10 g on the left side and 20 g on the other side, it will show -10, otherwise +10.

You are asked to find a fake coin among given 99 coins:

• You know that all genuine coins have the same weight but you do not know their weights.
• You also know that every fake coin is heavier or lighter by 1 gram than any genuine coin.

So, what is the minimum amount of weighing which guarantees to find any fake coin you are looking for? (The fake coin you are going to find might be heavier or lighter, it does not matter, you just need to find any fake one.)
