~7.35 cm


You can see below in the picture that AB is equal to sum of sides of 2 triangles with other sides known as 3.5 cm and 2.5 cm and 5 cm and 1 cm.
The required sides are V 3.5^2-2.5^2 and V 5^2-1^2 (V- represents square root)
AB = V 6 + V 24 ~ 7.35 cm
