I possess two wires. Both of them have an inconstant thickness but both of them burns completely in sixty minutes. The problem is that I want to measure forty-five minutes while using these two wires.

How can I measure if cutting the wire in half is not possible due to non-homogeneous construction ?

  1. Burn one wire on both ends and the other wire at one end.
  2. The first wire will burn completely in 30 minutes.
  3. At this time burn the other end of the second wire. It will burn completely in 15 minutes.

The total time will be: 30 + 15 = 45 minutes

There are two candles. Both will only burn exactly for an hour.
How will you use these two candles to measure forty-five minutes?

A guy has two wires of varying thickness, which each burns in 60 minutes. He actually wants to measure 45 mins. How can he measure 45 mins using only these two wires. (he can’t cut the one wire in half because the wires are non-homogeneous and he can’t be sure how long it will burn).

You are standing in front of a room with one light bulb inside of it.
You can not see if it is on or off.
Outside the room there are three switches in the off positions.
You may turn the switches any way you want to.
You stop turning the switches, enter the room and know which switch controls the light bulb. how?
