He blew the whistle on accounting fraud at Olympus Corporation in Japan
In 2011 Woodford was Olympus's recently appointed Chief Executive, and raised questions which eventually revealed massive and longstanding concealment of losses. Olympus sacked him, before then admitting publicly to "inappropriate accounting practices". The case became a major scandal in Japan and internationally.
