An earthquake
The earthquake, which had a moment magnitude of Mw? 7.9, was the first event in the sequence of large earthquakes in 1958, 1979 and 1998. It affected reinforced concrete buildings particularly, most of them in Guayaquil, with many reinforced concrete structures in the city being completely destroyed.
