Damodar River

It was known as the Sorrow of Bengal because of its ravaging floods in the plains of West Bengal. Damodar River is a river flowing across the Indian states of West Bengal and Jharkhand. It has a number of tributaries and subtributaries, such as Barakar, Konar, Bokaro, Haharo, Jamunia, Ghari, Guaia, Khadia and Bhera.

Several dams have been constructed in the valley i.e. River Damodar and its tributaries which not only generate hydroelectric power but also control floods. And after the Dams its is not known as a Sorrow of Bengal.
