Madhya Pradesh, India
Estimates vary on the death toll. The official immediate death toll was 2,259 and a total of 3,787 deaths in the end. Other government agencies estimate 15,000 deaths, while some estimates are as high as 8,000 deaths in the first weeks and another 8,000 deaths from gas-related diseases since.
