8 September 1914
The aircraft was an Austrian reconnaissance craft rammed by a Russian plane in Galicia in the Eastern Front. Both planes crashed. killing all occupants. October 5, 1914 is the date when French pilot Louis Quenault opened fire on a German aircraft with a machine gun for the first time.
