Crocodylus intermedius
The Orinoco crocodile (Crocodylus intermedius) is the largest predator in the Americas; it is found only in the Orinoco River, with a population estimated to be reduced now to about 500. Atelopus zeteki (Golden Frog), Masdevallia apparitio (Apparition orchid) and Cyanopsitta spixii (Spix's macaw) are critically endangered also, believed to be extinct now in the wild, but were found, respectively, in Panama, in the high Andean cloud forest, and in Brazilian riverine woodland containing the Trumpet Tree (Tabebuia aurea ). Hunting, logging and other human activity are cited as causes.
