Mastic
Mastic gives a smokey, almost pine-y flavour; it is also used to varnish metals and paintings, as a colour vehicle, and as an adhesive in dental work. Gum arabic is a key ingredient in traditional lithography and is used in printing, paint production, glue, cosmetics; some balsams are used in perfumery, as a sauce in cooking and as a constituent in cough syrups and lozenges; benzoin resin is used in cosmetics, veterinary medicine, incense, and as a flavouring in drinks, baked goods, chewing gum, frozen dairy, gelatins, puddings, and soft confectionery.
