Off the South American coast near the mouth of the Rio de la Plata
The warm shallow Brazil Current flows south from the equator down the northern coast of South America, and meets the cold deep sub-Antarctic Malvinas Current flowing north along the south coast. The confluence creates high energy and changeable ocean conditions.
