François-Marie Arouet
François-Marie Arouet usually wrote under the pen-name Voltaire. The work was "Candide", which immediately on publication was denounced by both secular and religious authorities, banned in several areas, and eventually listed on the Roman Catholic Church's list of prohibited books.
