Under the northwest Pacific Ocean
The submarine Tamu Massif volcano, identified in 2013 as one single shield volcano of about 650 km across, was the largest identified on Earth and bigger than the 625 km wide Olympus Mons on Mars, previously considered the largest in the solar system. The Tamu Massif was formed about 145 million years ago and has been inactive for about 140 million years.
