Rose was introduced in the first episode of the new series as a new "companion" for the Doctor in his 9th and 10th incarnations. "Doctor Who" had not aired regularly since 1989. Billie Piper received top billing alongside Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, both of whom played the Doctor.
